Our brief yet exciting extension to the Strait of Gibraltar is timed for the amazing Spring Migration, whereby thousands upon thousands of raptors and a huge array of other Eurasian species make the daily crossing from the African Continent back to their summer breeding grounds in Europe and Asia. Aside from marvelling at this incredible spectacle, some of the many highlights we can expect during our time in this immensely important flyby area include the Iberian endemic Spanish Imperial Eagle, visiting a newly established breeding colony of the Critically Endangered Northern Bald Ibis, an exhilarating sea cruise in search of seabirds and several species of whales and dolphins, and spending time at a colony of very confiding Lesser Kestrels in the port town of Tarifa.
Spanish Imperial Eagle; BonellÃ’s Eagle; Northern Bald Ibis; White-headed Duck; Marbled Teal; Audouin’s, Yellow-legged & Slender-billed Gulls; Scopoli’s & Balearic Shearwaters; Great Skua; chances for Little Bustard; Eurasian Stone-curlew; Collared Pratincole; Caspian Tern; Iberian Chiffchaff; Common Firecrest; European Crested Tit.

Suitable for all birding / wildlife interest levels.
Comfortable.
Undemanding. Most species provide good visuals in open conditions.
vast numbers of migrating raptors & other species, visiting a newly established breeding colony of Critically Endangered Northern Bald Ibis, photographing a breeding colony of Lesser Kestrel, whale watching sea cruise
Worthwhile to good.
I enjoyed the tour and was especially pleased with our tour leader, Rob Williams, and both local guides, who were excellent and very adept at finding our target birds as well as managing all the logistics required by a trip of this nature. This was my first Rockjumper birding tour and the tour exceeded my expectations.
Stephan and Yeray were tremendous guides and trip leaders. They were excellent in finding the birds and mammals and helping the whole group get eyes on them. Their knowledge about mammals, the local environment, etc was excellent as well. They were able to handle the few curveballs that came up and always communicated plans clearly. They were always pleasant and great at keeping the group relaxed and in good spirits. The tour logistics were excellent with good consideration for location, travel, birding time, etc. All of the accommodations were good to excellent - no issues at all. Thanks for an excellent bird tour!
Everything was very good. We certainly tried for everything. Great that we had the time to look at reptiles, frogs, etc. I certainly got almost all my major targets.
Both guides were excellent and also good drivers. They make a very good team together. They complemented each other well. Their knowledge of birds and lynx are incredible. They share their passions easily. They both made ebird lists which was greatly appreciated. Rob Williams has also a great sense of humor which made the trip even more fun. Yeray Seminario is very attentive to our needs and very good at managing the logistics. He was always keen to share information about Spain, birds, animals and answered all the questions that we asked. The wine and food were excellent as were the accommodations. Overall we had a great trip.
This was a great short tour, well-designed to get us into a wide range of habitats for a fine selection of European birds. Yeray Seminario did a fantastic job of finding Spains specialties while making adjustments to dodge persistent rainstorms during the week and a local festival in Andalusia. He was knowledgeable, helpful, patient, and fun to bird with, and I would not hesitate to recommend his tours or travel with him again. There were lots of great birds; I particularly enjoyed the vultures, raptors, and the very accessible Northern Bald Ibis colony. Accommodations were great, particularly our last day at a lodge that specifically targeted birders, with its own hides. It was also a very fun group of birders. These days, shorter tours with smaller groups fill the bill for me, and I would love to see more of them!
