This exciting tour takes us deep into the vast and remote ocean of forest that cloaks the Sarawak and Sabah provinces of Borneo. There, using recently made tracks and trails to gain access to these forests, we will endeavour to find several of the island's seldom-seen endemics, including the once-mythical Bornean Peacock-Pheasant, Bulwer’s Pheasant, Black Oriole, and Dulit Frogmouth. We also have excellent chances of finding additional much-desired specials such as Whitehead’s and Hose’s Broadbills, Whitehead’s Spiderhunter, Crested Partridge, Bornean, and Mountain Barbets, Blue-banded and Bornean Banded Pittas, Bornean Frogmouth, Pygmy White-eye, Mountain Serpent Eagle, the monotypic Rail-babbler and Crested Jayshrike, Bornean and Hook-billed Bulbuls and Bornean Leafbird, among many other fabulous birds!

On its own, this tour offers a chance at seeing around half of the island's endemics, while as an add-on to our Malaysia & Borneo – Rainforest Mammals and Birds tour, the combination could add nearly 95% of the island's endemics to your list!

Tour Pace & Walking

DIFFICULT: This is a high-intensity “mega” tour designed for passionate listers and serious birders who enjoy a fast-paced schedule. Due to its demanding nature, it’s not recommended for avid photographers, inexperienced birders, or anyone with mobility or health limitations.

Difficult at times, easy on some days. This a Mega style tour designed for the dedicated lister and serious birder. Not suitable for dedicated or avid photographers, inexperienced birders or anyone with mobility or health challenges. Our Mega tours are very fast-paced birding adventures designed for the dedicated lister and serious birder. The focus of the tour is to see as many of the endemics and area specials as possible in our given time. In order to cover the necessary route to maximize the species list we tend to spend a single night at most sites and travel large distances. There is very little down time aside from that spent driving from one site to the next. These tours are not suitable for dedicated or avid photographers; inexperienced or new birders; as well as anyone with serious mobility or health challenges.

Accommodation

Basic facilities in some locations (very basic at Paya Maga), good hotels in main centres.

Ease of Birding

Demanding at times, easy and rewarding on many days. Bird densities are low at times, while quite high at other times. Many visuals are high in the canopy or understory skulkers. Several rare and chal

Photographic Opportunities

Challenging at times but generally worthwhile. Sometimes very good and rewarding. Some dedicated blinds / hides.

What our clients say about us

Glen Valentine
JW & MW, Malaysia & Borneo

We felt that the trip was very well organised and efficient so we could spend as much time in the field as possible. Glen was a terrific guide - excellent birder as well as his concern that everyone was seeing the birds. Glen was very even in his manner at all times and with everyone.

Our local leader and Adam Walleyn made a great team; we appreciated Adam’s great skill at spotting and identifying the mammals and herptofauna, which is an important part of any birding trip for us.

Glen Valentine
JB, Malaysia & Borneo 2025

Many thanks for your patience and kindness in helping me see and hear such fabulous birds. Loved sharing the pheasants and partridges with you. The "WOW" moments!

Glen Valentine
SP, Malaysia & Borneo

Glen did a fantastic job on this tour. Birding in the lowland rainforest looking for Pittas was certainly a challenge! Glen was informative, patient and persistent, and did his best in making sure that the entire group saw these fascinating birds. The itinerary was comprehensive, the accommodations were great and the food was excellent. Overall, a wonderful trip.
