Guyana, a small English-speaking South American country nestled on the Atlantic Coast east of Venezuela, has become recognised as one of South America’s top birding and wildlife destinations. Due to a tiny population and an incredibly high proportion of undisturbed habitat, Guyana hosts some of the last relatively unexplored wildernesses on Earth. A variety of pristine ecosystems occur here, from lowland rainforests that stretch as far as the eye can see, to the savannahs and waterways of the famed Rupununi region, not to mention the dramatic Kaieteur Falls (one of the world’s highest single-drop waterfalls), all of which ensures that this magical destination has something to offer every birder and nature enthusiast.

Numerous large macaws, Sun Parakeet, Guianan Cock-of-the-rock, Scarlet Ibis, Rio Branco Antbird, Guianan Red Cotinga, Capuchinbird, Crimson Fruitcrow, Grey-winged Trumpeter and Harpy Eagle are just some of the many birding highlights that can be anticipated on this tour! Mammals are also a major emphasis, and we can expect species ranging from the amazing Giant Anteater to various New World monkeys, plus a chance to see the elusive Jaguar!

Tour Pace & Walking

MODERATE TO CHALLENGING: This tour requires a good level of fitness, stamina, and overall health. It’s best suited for experienced birders who are comfortable with a more active itinerary. Please note that it may not be ideal for avid photographers, new birders, or those with mobility or health concerns.

Our Relaxed series of tours are designed to focus on having an enjoyable holiday with a bird and wildlife focus. Where possible; we have reduced or removed long drives, single night stays and poor/rustic accommodation. We have also sought to reduce or remove difficult hikes, narrow/muddy trails and otherwise oppressive environmental conditions. Early starts and night birding are mostly optional, and we will not spend much time searching for difficult and/or skulking species. These tours are not suitable for hardcore birders and listers, or dedicated photographers.

Accommodation

Medium to good standard, can be quite simple. Some have no hot water.

Ease of Birding

Moderate. Partly rainforest birding with several low-density species. Easier in the savannah.

Photographic Opportunities

Worthwhile to good. No feeders or hides, one canopy tower

What our clients say about us

Forrest Rowland
PR, Guyana

Forrest Rowland is an outrageously skilled guide (I called him the Eagle-sighted Echolocator). Perfect organisation, perfect local guides, what more could one need? And the birding was better than first class. A perfect 10 on all counts!

Lev Frid
AJ & TJ, Guyana 2019

We enjoyed our tour to Guyana. We were particularly impressed with Lev’s enthusiasm and interest in wildlife in general.

Stephan Lorenz
MN, Guyana 2021

Stephan is a star guide. He is fantastic & he deals with any difficulties very well. Most Importantly he gets the clients on the birds. Superb & fun.

Forrest Rowland
CT, Guyana

Forrest Rowland, as we suspect you already know, is an outstanding guide. We have traveled with a number of other birding companies and he stands out as superior in all aspects. He is a terrific birding guide... excellent in finding birds on anyone's target list and he is very patient with less hard-core but interested birders in the group. He is well-organized, has infinite energy and enthusiasm and great people skills. You feel well taken care of when on his tour and he respects, helps and educates the local guides. I would highly recommend any tour Forrest is leading.

Lev Frid
BS, Guyana 2019

Lev Frid did a fine job. He is an excellent spotter, quick with ID's and very good at getting folks on the bird. His enthusiasm was infectious and he has extraordinary knowledge of a wide range of natural history subjects. It's an understatement to say Lev is into snakes ... he's the pied piper of snakes. We saw more snakes in two weeks than all our other trips combined. Lev found them, handled them and explained their natural history ... fascinating.
