Our Northern Tanzania Bird Photo Tour explores the bird-and wildlife-rich reserves of the northern parts of this exceptionally diverse country. The savanna of East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia) is the richest habitat on Earth for birds (as far as sheer volume/density is concerned) and we will be continually surrounded by the most spectacular and cooperative avian treasures, most of which are outstandingly beautiful and extremely easy to see and photograph. A joy indeed and a bird photographer’s paradise! Not that birds are the only focus of this adventure, since we will find ourselves also marvelling at some of the highest concentrations of mammals to be found anywhere on our planet, and all this amidst spectacular scenery in one of Africa’s wildest, most stable, and least spoilt destinations!

Highlights

  • The Wildebeest Migration and all the associated action in Serengeti National Park
  • Experience the sheer numbers of birds and wildlife and the overall ease of photography and birding in East Africa.
  • This tour has an extremely high ‘feel good factor’ with very comfortable accommodations and lots to see, enjoy and experience.
  • Explore some of the most famous wildlife areas on the planet – Ngorongoro Crater, the Serengeti, and Tarangire National Park
  • The opportunity to witness and photograph many species of iconic African megafauna from Cheetah, Leopard and Lion to African Elephant, Maasai Giraffe and Black Rhinoceros

Tour Pace & Walking

Undemanding. Suitable for all photography / birding / wildlife interest levels and mobility capabilities. • Our Bird Photo Tours are a hybrid between our Classic birding tours and dedicated photographic tours. You don’t have to be a professional photographer or have the biggest lens; this is for everyone with an interest in photography and birding. Whether you’re using a bridge camera or the latest body and prime lens, our aims are the same. • These tours are not aimed at seeing the most species possible on the route, rather taking time to photograph key targets and any other interesting species we may find. Naturally, the overall species list will be lower than a comparable birding focused tour. • Whilst we may use blinds, feeders and hide setups on some of these tours, we will not be spending an entire day nor even several hours fixed in one spot. • These tours are suitable for photographers who prefer opportunistic photography over entire days in a hide. • Our leaders will assist in helping everyone secure good photographic opportunities and advise as much as they can on camera setup. However, they are not professional photographic tour leaders.

Accommodation

Comfortable lodges & tented safari camps

Ease of Birding

Undemanding. Most species provide good visuals in open conditions. Forest edge birding is limited.

Other Attractions

Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, Maasai

Photographic Opportunities

Excellent throughout. Mostly from the vehicle and in lodge gardens. No dedicated hides.

What our clients say about us

Quinton Paul Josop
GK, Kenya & Tanzania 2024

I would like to say the trip was outstanding A few small issues but nothing major. The guide , Paul Josop, who in my opinion as a professional naturalist myself who has done similar type trip leading in the USA and elsewhere for over 40 years, I would say he’s one of the best I’ve seen! I don’t feel there was any way he could be improved upon because his amazing ability to spot birds and animals of all types and identify on the move was second to none . His knowledge of the area and enthusiasm was contagious! I consider myself very skilled but his abilities for the East Africa region were off the charts! Also his ability to always be friendly , handling any personality differences in the group were first class and he always was concerned about the clients and what their needs and wants were above all else. He literally made the trip unforgettable for all of us , and we agreed, and I don’t think I would personally want to go with another guide after this trip with him. He truly deserves it and as much work as you can provide him. Your clients will appreciate it! Please feel free to call me if you would like to discuss any more details concerning the trip. Thank you and to Paul for a memorable and life-changing trip!

GK - Kenya & Tanzania 2024

The guide , Paul Josop was excellent and his identification and spotting skills were unparalleled. He repeated the bird names frequently when asked and was very enthusiastic about everything he pointed out to the group. He always took care of the group and was very patient and enjoyable to be around. He has excellent knowledge of the areas we visited. The two drivers that helped in Tanzania and Kenya were both knowledgeable and friendly and assisted Paul well. We saw very abundant wildlife in all the parks we visited and exceeded expectations in most areas . The accommodations were also very good . Food was excellent throughout.

André Bernon
PM & MM, Kenya & Tanzania 2021

"Andre loved showing us this part of Africa and now we understand why! Yes the birds were amazing and yes seeing the animals in their natural habitat was breathtaking but it was also much more. It was the endless horizons. It was the distant and up close rains. It was Mt. Kenya appearing and disappearing rom us. It was the people. The colorful clothing. The happy faces and the shy children. It was the beautiful lodges and the excellent food. TIA! This is Africa!"

Gregory de Klerk
PC, Tanzania 2018

Greg de Klerk was very friendly and competent. He worked diligently to ensure we all saw the birds. We were always given sufficient time to look closely and for some to take photos. A most enjoyable tour.

David Hoddinott
AS, Tanzania 2023

I really enjoyed the tour. It was hard work at the beginning with the walking and the birds difficult to see in the forest.
