Erik Forsyth recently returned from co-leading a private birding tour through Sri Lanka with the legendary Ian Sinclair. Amongst the many birding and wildlife highlights were great sightings of the sensational Sri Lanka Blue Magpie (see photo), outrageous Sri Lanka Frogmouth, Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot, Sri Lanka Junglefowl, Sri Lanka Green Pigeon, Sri Lanka Wood Pigeon, Red-faced and Blue-faced Malkohas, Indian Pitta, gorgeous Malabar Trogon, Sri Lanka Scimitar-Babbler, Sri Lanka Grey and Malabar Pied Hornbills, Orange Minivet, Sri Lanka Racket-tailed Drongo, beautiful Spot-winged Thrush, Sri Lanka Whistling Thrush, stunning Crimson-backed Woodpecker, a calling pair of Chestnut-backed Owlet’s, and two Leopards within five minutes of each other in Yala NP. All in all, another fabulous tour through one of the world’s most rewarding yet underrated birding destinations!
