Although perhaps better known for its luxurious beaches, outstanding coffee and great Reggae music, the island of Jamaica has much more to offer both the avid birder and more general naturalist alike. Ranking fifth in biodiversity among the world’s islands, our 6-day Jamaican birding tour provides the perfect opportunity to encounter all 28 of the island’s endemic bird species plus numerous other Greater Antillean specialities.
This we will do by thoroughly exploring the island’s great variety of habitats, from the evergreen forests of the Blue Mountains to the ultramarine waters of the northern coast. Just a few of the highlight species include Jamaican Owl, Jamaican Mango, Jamaican Becard, Jamaican Tody, Crested Quail-Dove and both Red-billed and Black-billed Streamertails. Our lodgings are perfectly located to allow us to stay in the same place for the entire tour! Not only are our lodgings very comfortable, they are right in the middle of the endemic laden forests we intend to bird.
Ring-tailed Pigeon; Crested Quail-Dove; Yellow-billed & Black-billed Amazons; Chestnut-bellied & Jamaican Lizard Cuckoos; Jamaican Owl; Jamaican Mango; Red-billed & Black-billed Streamertails; Jamaican Tody; Jamaican Woodpecker; Jamaican Elaenia; Jamaican Pewee; Jamaican Becard; Jamaican & Blue Mountain Vireos; Jamaican Crow; Jamaican Euphonia; Jamaican Oriole; Jamaican Blackbird; Orangequit; Jamaican Spindalis.

Undemanding. Suitable for all birding / wildlife interest levels and mobility capabilities.
Very comfortable.
Undemanding. Most species provide good visuals in relatively open conditions. Forest birding is most from the road edge.

Great scenery & beaches, friendly people, good food, laid back culture
Good to very good. No dedicated hides, some feeders.
Our Rockjumper guide, Adam Walleyn, was excellent. A strong birder and patient man, he worked hard to make sure that all participants saw and photographed the birds well. Adam was able to engage positively with a diverse and intense group. I liked him very much.
Lev Frid is an excellent leader. With his keen ears and eyes, no bird on our Jamaica tour went undetected or unidentified, and with his judicious use of tapes and a laser pointer, the entire group got to see each bird, too. Lev is also able to answer almost any question.about any bird anywhere in the world, and is very enjoyable company. I plan to travel with him again.
Carlos Sanchez is a great guide, an excellent birder who knows the area well. He is friendly and interesting, and we enjoyed our non-birding conversations with him. We would be very happy to travel with him again.
Our Rockjumper guide for all three tours, Adam Walleyn, was an excellent birder and attentive to all participants. We have travelled with Adam previously and continue to enjoy his expertise and passion for nature. Adam's leadership was a major factor in our booking the three tours.
