After scouting sites for our exciting new Sulawesi & Halmahera tour starting in July 2011 (please contact the RBT office for availability as spaces are filling quickly), David Shackelford led our inaugural tour through Indonesia’s remote islands of the Lesser Sundas. Along the journey he picked up his 7,500th life bird – a flashy Elegant Pitta on the rugged island of Sumba. One of Rockjumper’s senior birding tour leaders, David’s guiding and travel has taken him to more than 100 countries spanning every continent. He comments that, ‘Most birders love the thrill of finding new birds and I am no exception, but the privilege of sharing these memorable adventures with others still has to be my favorite part of travel.’ With plenty of birding gusto left in him at the age of 29 he says enthusiastically, ‘I’m just warming up!’
