Our relaxed tour of northeastern Argentina focusses predominantly on the province of Misiones. Here we will visit one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world, the gargantuan Cataratas del Iguazú (Iguazú Falls)! The beautiful Atlantic forests in the area still hold specials like Black-fronted Piping Guan, Araucaria Tit-Spinetail and various attractive parrots, toucans, manakins and tanagers. We then move across to the extensive Esteros del Iberá for some remarkable wetland birding at one of the largest marshland ecosystems in the country. Seedeaters are among the most special and well represented families here and headline species include the recently described Iberá Seedeater and others such as Marsh, Chestnut and Dark-throated while additional specials such as Strange-tailed Tyrant, Ochre-breasted Pipit and Black-and-white Monjita are highly localised denizens of this wetland. Our tour concludes with visits to El Palmar National Park and Ceibas where we will be on the careful lookout for the scarce Glaucous-blue Grosbeak, South American Painted-snipe and Ash-colored Cuckoo.

Tour Pace & Walking

Comfortable. Suitable for most birding / wildlife interest levels. Our Relaxed series of tours are designed to focus on having an enjoyable holiday with a bird and wildlife focus. Where possible; we have reduced or removed long drives, single night stays and poor/rustic accommodation. We have also sought to reduce or remove difficult hikes, narrow/muddy trails and otherwise oppressive environmental conditions. Early starts and night birding are mostly optional, and we will not spend much time searching for difficult and/or skulking species. These tours are not suitable for hardcore birders and listers, or dedicated photographers.

Accommodation

Comfortable.

Ease of Birding

Moderate. Most species provide decent visuals in open conditions. Some forest birding which is more difficult to obtain quality visuals.

Other Attractions

spectacular scenery, incredible Iguazú falls, pristine & little-explored wilderness, great cuisine, super-friendly people

Photographic Opportunities

Good to good+. Some species distant, bright light can be challenging. Hummingbird feeders at some sites.

What our clients say about us

Stephan Lorenz
TM, Argentina 2023

This trip was excellent, the guide excellent, and the group experience was great.

Peter Kaestner
FO, Argentina 2022

Peter is an excellent guide! He’s very friendly and did an excellent job is solving an problem that came along. PLU, He knows the birds well and would help us key in on the differences. I will go with him again! Pablo was our local guide and did a phenomenal job as well.

Peter Kaestner
GL & CL, Argentina 2022

Peter Kaestner was an excellent guide, combining outstanding bird-finding and identification abilities, capable and efficient logistical planning, and strong social and interpersonal skills. One especially commendable feature of Peter's bird guiding is his limiting of playback to the minimum needed for the bird to come out and be seen by the whole group (rather than for optimal photos or prolonged views), thereby minimizing disturbance to what are often localized or threatened bird species. We hope that other Rockjumper guides will adopt Peter's approach.

Peter Kaestner
SG, Argentina 2022

Peter Kaestner was completely committed to getting every bird possible on both tours. He was sensitive to all the needs of the participants and worked tirelessly on what could have been potentially serious limitations to the logistics. Getting the chauffeur/vehicle company to recognize the needs of a birding tour was difficult. And because of lack of flexibility in overtime use of the driver and deviations from an original itinerary, Peter had to work hard to make sure we had opportunities for every bird regardless. He was uncommonly successful in achieving these results.

Robert Wilcox
JW, Argentina 2022

Bobby Wilcox was a very capable and congenial leader. Our group consisted of birders of all levels of expertise. Bobby did his very best to make certain everyone got the opportunities they needed to have a very positive experience.
