Harpy Eagle on the nest and great views for everyone of a Jaguar sauntering across the road – what else needs to be said? David Shackelford guided our second incredibly successful tour to the biodiverse South American nation of Guyana. Beginning with the thunderous cascade of Kaieteur Falls, the world’s largest free-falling waterfall, with an unbroken vertical drop of 741 feet, our tour covered all the major habitats of the nation. These ranged from the biodiverse Guianan Shield to the vast Rupununi Savanna, where we watched a Giant Anteater only a few feet away carrying a baby across her back! Just a handful of our favourite birds included the critically endangered Sun Parakeet, Guianan Cock-of-the-rock, Capuchinbird in display, Spotted Antpitta, Spotted Puffbird, Hoary-throated Spinetail, an amazing experience with a foraging flock of Grey-winged Trumpeters, Red-fan Parrot in display, Crimson Topaz and the rare Red-and-black Grosbeak.
